Governor to visit campus

Governor Mike Huckabee will be in Batesville on Thursday, November 30, for a town meeting at 7:30 p.m. in Nucor Auditorium. Everyone is invited to the evening meeting.

Parking alert: Be aware that the Batesville Chamber of Commerce and civic clubs will be having lunch with the Governor in Becknell Gym at noon that day and parking will be tight. Students who drive to class need to plan on getting here earlier than usual in order to find a parking place or walk a longer distance.

Please note that lunch is a Chamber of Commerce event, not a Lyon College event.

Peggy Roettger appointed to Arkansas Arts Council

Margaret Begley “Peggy” Roettger, coordinator of special events and projects at Lyon College, has been appointed to the Arkansas Arts Council by Governor Mike Huckabee.

Ms. Roettger was named to a four-year term on the council, which meets quarterly in Little Rock.

Ms. Roettger, the wife of Lyon President Walter Roettger, is a former coordinator of community relations for the New England Patriots of the National Football League, and served as interim director of the Winston Churchill Memorial and Library at Westminster College.

She attended the University of Hartford in Connecticut and also served as associate director of university summer programs and marketing manager for intercollegiate athletics at the University of Hartford.

The Roettgers have one son, Daniel, who is 10.

Batesville Community Theatre presents production of 'The King & I'

The Batesville Community Theatre proudly presents Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “The King and I” for its fall production. Performances will be November 30 - December 2 at 7:30 p.m. and December 3 for a matinee performance at 2:30 p.m. The performances will be held in Brown Chapel.

Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children age 12 and under, and senior citizens. Advance tickets may be purchased at Schwegman’s Office Supply, Inc., 308 E. Main St., and Carlee’s Crown Shop at 682 Harrison St. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.

Dr. Cohen has articles published

Dr. Richard Cohen, assistant professor of economics, along with Carl Bonham of the University of Hawaii, recently had two articles published. “To Aggregate, Pool, or Neither: Testing the Rational Expectations Hypothesis Using Survey Data,” is forthcoming in the Journal of Business and Economic Statistics. “Rational Consensus Forecasts?,” is forthcoming in the Journal of Economic Perspectives.

Basketball

The Scots notched their first win of the young basketball season Thursday with a 78-70 victory over Williams Baptist. The Scots were 1-3 going into a Monday night matchup at Ouachita Baptist University at Arkadelphia.

Against Williams Baptist, Brandon Byrd, a freshman from Jonesboro, lead the Scots with 18 points. Billy Linson, a junior from Cedar Hill, Texas, scored 16 points and had three steals. Terry Large, a transfer from Conners State, added 13 points. Russell Simmons led with six rebounds.

The Scots’ next game will be at home against Ouachita Baptist at 7 p.m. on Nov. 30.

The Pipers fell to 1-4 over the weekend after two losses in the Piper Help and Hope Classic at Becknell Gym. The Pipers lost to Harding 65-57 on Friday and then came up short 75-70 in the Saturday game against the University of Arkansas-Monticello.

In the Harding game, Andi Craft led Lyon with 13 point and six rebounds. Sarah Meier had 11 points. Meier scored 23 ponts before fouling out with 73 seconds left in the game against UAM.

The Pipers were to host the University of Central Arkansas Tuesday night. They will play Hendrix in Conway at 3 p.m. Saturday and will return home Tuesday to host Ouachita Baptist. Tip-off will be at 7 p.m.
