Lyon’s Rivas named NAIA First Team All-American; Talbott makes Honorable Mention
Jose Rivas, a junior from Anzoategui, Venezuela, has been named an NAIA First Team All-American. This is the first time in Lyon College history for a baseball player to be named first team all-American. Jose finished the year with a .409 batting average, 17 home runs, 77 RBI, 57 runs, 92 hits, and a 22-game hitting streak that is still alive. Also for Lyon, Josh Talbott, a senior from Mesa, Arizona, made NAIA Honorable Mention All-American. Rivas was also named the TranSouth Athletic Conference player of the year and Region XI Player of the year. Talbott was named first team all-conference and first team all-region. Rivas set seven single season records for Lyon College this year. They are: 17 home runs, 77 runs batted in, 57 runs scored, 92 hits, 160 total bases, 225 at-bats, and a 22 game hit streak that is still alive and will continue into next season. Talbott finishes his career at Lyon College as the all-time leader for home runs in a career with 20, with 14 of those coming this season. Below are the season statistics for Rivas and Talbott. |

Lyon will welcome students and parents of this year’s freshman class at a summer orientation today. Forty-nine students along with sixty-five guests are scheduled to attend.
Students will meet with mentor groups, have their ID picture taken, get parking permits and have an opportunity to receive assistance with business office matters, computer and mailing services, financial aid and other areas of interest.
A second orientation is scheduled for Friday, July 16.
Barnett named golf NAIA Honorable Mention All-American

Adriane Barnett, a junior from Jonesboro Westside High School, has been named NAIA Honorable Mention All-American for women’s golf. Barnett helped lead the Pipers to an eleventh-place finish in the NAIA National Tournament held May 25-28 in Daytona Beach, Florida. Barnett was also named TranSouth Athletic Conference Player of the Year and NAIA Region XI Player of the Year. Adriane was a First Team All-American selection in 2002. Barnett was also named an NAIA Academic All-American for this season as well. She has a 3.8 grade point average while majoring in biology.

Hill signs to play basketball with Lyon Scots

Adam Hill, 2004 Norwood (Missouri) High School graduate, signs a letter of intent to play basketball at Lyon College. Adam is a 6’2” combo guard. Adam will be attending Lyon on a basketball and academic scholarship. Adam helped lead the Pirates to an 18-9 record and a share of the Summit Conference Championship in the recently completed basketball season. Methodist church plans choir week
First United Methodist Church in Batesville announces SWOC: Summer Week of Choir, July 19-23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. SWOC is open to all children who have completed 2nd-6th grades. Registration fee is $20 per child and each child will receive a SWOC T-shirt, camp picture and music book with a recording of the musical. The camp musical is Malice in the Palace: The Story of Esther. Registration is open to the first 40 children. Transportation will be provided if needed. Lyon College assistant baseball coach Robbie Holmes tosses
baseballs to campers who won pitching honors during this week’s elementary
camp session. The second session of the summer, concluded Thursday.
Hitting and pitching camps will be held next week. Camps are also being
held this summer in basketball, soccer, tennis and volleyball. The Lyon S.A.F.A.R.I. program is also in full swing this week. The first session began Monday and will conclude Friday, June 18. The second session begins June 21. S.A.F.A.R.I. is a summer enrichment program for youngsters who have completed grades K-7. |
