The Wil Seabrook Band recently made its major-label debut with a self-titled EP (five-song CD) for Maverick Records. The single, “It’s Your Life,” is getting significant airplay across the country.

Alcohol will not be allowed at the concert.

Lyon graduates to receive awards for history papers

Two Lyon graduates will be rewarded for history papers that they completed while students here. The Arkansas Historical Association will present its annual award for Best Article in a County or Local Journal to Clint Reed '99 for his article, "Batesville, William Jennings Bryan, and Direct Democracy," which appeared in the October 2001-January 2002 issue of the Independence County Chronicle. Reed's article was the result of a directed study project supervised by Dr. David Stricklin.

In addition, an article by Trey Gaines '97 titled "From Vaudeville to Blockbuster & The History of the Landers Theater," which appeared in the April-July 2002 issue of the Independence County Chronicle, tied for the AHA's award for Best Business History in a County or Local Journal. Gaines's article was the product of a directed research project supervised by Dr. Jane Fagg and Dr. John Dahlquist.

Both articles were edited by Mrs. Nancy Britton, editor of the Chronicle. The awards will be presented at the Arkansas Historical Association's annual awards banquet in Monticello on Friday, April 25.

It’s election time—
LYON COLLEGE Alumni Trustee Election time, that is!

Lyon staff members have begun mailing brochures containing biographical information about trustee candidates along with trustee election ballots to alumni this week, and they will be sending out more in weeks to come. Alumni of Lyon College are asked to vote for one candidate and return the postage-paid ballot as soon as possible. (To qualify as a voting alumnus or alumna, you must have attended Lyon—or Arkansas College—for at least one full year.)

The GreenSheet Online! staff wants to try something new, fun, and definitely cool!  Check it out: We want to make you famous! Ever hear the saying that goes something like, “Everyone gets twelve minutes of fame in life”? Well, we think twelve minutes just isn’t enough! In fact, we want to give you an entire WEEK of fame and acknowledgement.

Here’s the deal: We’d like to offer Lyon students, staff, faculty and alums the opportunity to “make the GreenSheet Online!” Beginning with the next week’s April 11 edition we’re going to feature a “GreenSheet photo of the week” in which readers have the opportunity to be pictured on the GreenSheet Online!

We now invite and encourage you to send us photos of yourself, relatives, friends, (enemies,) classmates, roommates, professors or whomever. This is the perfect opportunity for you to honor a friend, professor, or student, embarrass someone who was at your fraternity or sorority party, announce a wedding engagement or birth of a child or simply tell the world about what you did over the weekend.

Here are some things to consider when submitting your pictures:

-        Photos must reflect some positive or humorous aspect of humanity, and should neither be obscene nor offensive.

-        Photos that display good lighting, composition, and that are in sharp focus have a significantly higher chance of making the GreenSheet Online!

-        Digital photos or scanned versions of 35mm prints are the preferred form of submission.  However, actual prints will be accepted with the understanding that the GreenSheet Online! staff will not be held responsible if the print(s) become(s) lost or damaged in any way.

-        Photo submissions must include a brief description of the photograph and the name of the individual who took the picture.

-         E-mail photos and information to: jmarzewski@lyon.edu  (You may also bring prints to the Office of Public Relations in the Nichols building.)

See?  It’s really quite easy to be featured on the GreenSheet Online!  And if you act quickly, you’ll see yourself in next week’s edition!
