Service Day ’03 statistics

Nearly 400 of Lyon College’s students, faculty, and staff volunteered over 1,100 hours of service to the Batesville community September 24 as part of the school’s 13th annual Service Day. That number represents an increase over last year’s volunteer-hours.

Groups from Lyon visited area schools, nursing homes, museums and other sites to offer their services.

The Erosophic Society, one of Lyon’s oldest organizations, served at the Batesville Kindergarten Center and the First Presbyterian Church. True to their organization’s literary bent, members read books to the children.

“Service Day was a lot of fun,” said Jessica Miller, a senior from Cave City and Erosophic Society president. “We enjoyed reading to the children and playing with them. It was a good way to give back to the community and thank them for all they’ve given us.”
