Williamson Prize Lecture Tuesday
Cassie F. Creighton,
associate professor of accounting at Lyon College, will present the 2001-2002
Williamson Prize Lecture at 11 a.m. in the Lyon Building’s Nucor Auditorium on
Tuesday, March 12.
Creighton’s lecture is titled “Women in Accounting.” She was awarded the prize during commencement exercises in May 2001. The prize is given annually to a faculty member deemed to be most outstanding in four categories: professional competence, scholarly ability, exemplary humane and Christian values and contributions to the community. The faculty member presents a public lecture at a convocation during the following academic year.
Creighton is the chair of the Business and Economics Division at Lyon. She received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Lyon (then Arkansas College) in 1980 and a master’s in business administration from Arkansas State University in 1984. She became a Certified Public Accountant in 1988. Creighton first started teaching at Lyon as a part-time instructor in accounting in 1983-84. She became a full-time instructor the following year.
The award is named in memory of Lamar Williamson (1887-1974) of Monticello. The Lyon Board of Trustees established the prize in 1979. The Williamson Prize confers upon the recipient a silver cup and a stipend from a memorial fund, both of which were given by J. Gaston Williamson of Little Rock in honor of his father.
