VP Rueter gives update on summer projects on campus

By Mr. Kenneth J. Rueter
Vice President for Business and Finance

This is the third article in a series of updates to keep everyone informed as to what is happening on campus this summer. These projects are being funded by the $3 million bond issue that the College issued two years ago.

Becknell Gymnasium – Renovation work in the lower level of Becknell (locker rooms and training room) should be completed by the end of this week. The end result of this renovation will be a larger and refurbished training room for Lyon College athletes, a new women’s varsity locker room, and other minor structural changes in the area. Relockering of some of the locker rooms will take place later this summer.

Nichols Administration Building – Planning continues on the renovation of the interior central working area in this building. Work is scheduled to begin on this area in the latter part of July.

Residence Halls – Painting has now been completed in Barton Hall and new carpeting is being installed this week. New venetian blinds are now being installed in the windows of the four freshmen residence halls.

Small Chapel - Carpeting and painting will begin in this area in the very near future.

Tennis Courts – Construction is planned to begin on two new tennis courts within the next week. These new courts will be located just to the south of the existing courts next to Becknell Gymnasium. This will give the College a complex of six tennis courts, which is the benchmark number to hold intercollegiate matches. The other four existing courts will be resurfaced later this summer.

John Noah provides Enrollment Services update

By John Noah
Director of Student Financial Assistance

Enrollment Services continues to be very busy as the freshman numbers continue to grow. Transfer applications are also increasing steadily. We feel sure we’re bringing in a great class for the fall.

Forty-four future Lyon students attended the first summer orientation held on June 11. It was very exciting to see, together for the first time, part of the group that will make up the class of 2005.

We’re now looking forward to the next summer orientation which will be on July 23.

Finally, I regret to inform you that Charles Dennis has resigned and will be leaving us on July 13. We all wish him well in his future endeavors.
