VP Rueter gives update on campus summer projects

By Mr. Kenneth J. Rueter

Vice-President for Business and Finance

In order to keep everyone on campus informed, this is the first in a series of updates as to what has already happened, or what will be happening in the near future on campus this summer. These projects are being funded by the $3 million bond issue that the College issued two years ago.

Becknell Gymnasium - The swimming pool leak has been repaired and the pool is now back in operation and available for use. Renovation work in the lower level of Becknell (locker rooms and training room) will begin in early June.

Nichols Administration Building - New chiller units will be installed on the roof of this building either in late May or early June.

In addition, planning is well under way to renovate the interior central working area in this building later this summer. This project should significantly improve the working environment for everyone in the building.

Residence Halls - New carpeting has already been installed in Wilson-Rogers Hall. Painting has been completed in Brown Hall Apartments and carpeting is now being installed and should be completed by June 1 A new chiller unit has been installed in Bryan Hall. Blandford Hall is also in the process of having a new chiller unit installed. These units will improve the HVAC systems in both of these buildings.

Phase I of Derby Center under way

Ground has been broken on the Derby Science Center Building. The site utility relocation is currently under way and should be completed by June 1. The building committee has met with the architect and the lab consultant and drawings are currently being prepared by the lab consultant for all of the interior labs in the building.

The project is on schedule and everything is looking very positive for Phase I of the project.
