Karen Austin wins first Employee Incentive Award

Karen Austin, technical services manager at Lyon, was presented with the first Lyon College Employee Incentive Award at a Management Assembly meeting Tuesday. Karl Kemp, director of information services and president of the Management Assembly, made the presentation. The Employee Incentive Award was established to recognize the efforts of employees that go beyond their assigned duties. Mrs. Austin was recognized for reconditioning about 20 personal computers for students in the APPLE program; assisting staff, students, and faculty with purchasing and troubleshooting their personal computers; assisting members of the community with technical support; repairing computers on campus to save the College money that would otherwise be spent for outside service; and providing training to students. Mrs. Austin received the $100 award and a framed certificate.
Kelly Schafer and Warren McCullough hug after being named Homecoming Queen and King during homecoming festivities Saturday in Becknell Gymnasium. Schafer and McCullough were selected for the honor by their fellow students. Making the announcement were Mr. and Ms. Lyon College, Stuart Higginbotham and Maria Kaloghirou.
Dr. Walter Roettger welcomes prospective students, parents and Business Advisory Board members to Lyon Fellows Days Friday. Prospective students were on campus Friday and Saturday competing for scholarships. David Wilkey, vice president for enrollment services, said 127 students were on campus during the two days.
Community International Night
Lyon College and the Community International Night committee invite you, your family, and your guests to attend International Night at 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, at Edwards Dining Hall.
The event hosts international students from Lyon, UACCB, area high schools, and all international residents of the community.
There is no admission fee for the evening. Instead, bring your favorite dish to share with other guests. Feel free to explore the international theme. Each dish should serve at least 8-10 people. Lyon College food service will provide drinks and dessert.
The event is sponsored by The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville, First Community Bank, Batesville Rotary Club, Citizen’s Bank, LaCroix Optical, Townsends, and Entergy.

Gary Harris, assistant professor of theatre, shows a model one of the theatre technical students designed based on a play to one of his “shadows” during Shadow Day at Lyon College. Twenty-one high school juniors from throughout Independence County were on campus Wednesday shadowing faculty and staff as they did their jobs.
Sports
Basketball The Pipers defeated Williams Baptist 66-63 Monday in Walnut Ridge. The win improved the Pipers’ record to 10-14 for the season; they are 5-3 in conference play. Sarah Meier scored 31 points to lead the Pipers..The Pipers travel to Martin Methodist College on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tilt. They will host Blue Mountain College Tuesday, February 10, at 7 p.m.
The Scots beat Williams College 72-61 Monday night in Walnut Ridge. The Scots, who have won four of their last six games, improved to 7-15 for the season. They are 3-4 in the TranSouth Conference.
The Scots defeated Lee University 82-74 on Saturday in Becknell Gym.
In the Monday win over Williams Baptist, the Scots played without Jon David Parker, who has a knee injury, and Kyle Hill, who may be out for the rest of the season with a hip injury.
Alan Rowell and Marlon Banks each scored 12 points to lead the team. Brandon Byrd added 11 and two steals and Casey Scribner had 10 points.
The Scots will play at Martin Methodist at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Baseball
The Lyon College Scots won the first game of the season, with a 11-8 victory Sunday over the Henderson State Reddies. Phillip May was the winning pitcher, and Matt Wentz and Nathan Read each hit a home run. In the second game of the doubleheader, the Reddies won 20-12.
Next up is a tournament in Longview, Texas on Friday and Saturday. The Scots will return home on Sunday to face The University of the Ozarks at 1 p.m.
