Choir to perform Christmas concert
The Lyon College Concert Choir, under the direction of Dr. Michael H. Arshagouni, will perform its annual Christmas concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, December 7, in Brown Chapel.Accompanied by a chamber orchestra drawn from the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, the choir will perform Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria,” Craig Courtney’s “A Musicological Journey Through the Twelve Days of Christmas,” and other seasonal music.
The concert, entitled “A Celebration of Christmas,” will conclude with an audience sing-along and candle-lighting.
Admission is free and the public is invited.
The Lyon Band, directed by Jim Chlebak, will provide music during the reception that follows the Christmas concert. A Lyon student, Chloe Robinson, will be the featured soloist.
Festival of Lessons and Carols will be celebrated December 9
The annual Festival of Lessons and Carols will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at the Christian Science Society, 18th and College streets.College Organist Russell Stinson; the Lyon College Flute Choir, directed by Laura Bauman Stinson; and community musicians will present a program of traditional Christmas music, with Scripture readings.
The program will showcase the church’s internationally renowned Flentrop organ.
Admission is free and the public is invited.

| Steinbeck on Steinbeck
Author Nancy Steinbeck reads a passage from “The Other Side of Eden: Life with John Steinbeck” which she co-wrote with her husband, John Steinbeck IV, the son of the famous author. Steinbeck finished the book her husband started after his death. Steinbeck visited the campus on Nov. 13. Steinbeck is the mother of 1999 Lyon alumna Megan Steinbeck. |
Noontime recital to be Wednesday
A noontime student recital will be held at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, in Bevens Music Room.The student performers will be Kristy Barrington, Blair Coburn, Erica Foster, Heather Grantham, Amber Haskins, Laura Higginbottom, Laura Hignight, Laura Lofton, Stephanie Saunders, and Elizabeth White.
You may bring your lunch if you’d like.

'Faculty Authors' on display in library
The Mabee-Simpson Library started a new regular display in November called “Faculty Authors.” The first month’s display celebrates faculty members who published books during 2000-2001.Each month there will be a different display of faculty with biographical sketches and published works.
Ivana Budisin designed and set up the current display. Camille Beary compiled the biographical sketches.
Everyone is invited to view the display.

Theatre group presenting 'Joseph'
The Batesville Community Theatre is presenting the musical, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” in Brown Chapel this weekend.The production began Thursday night and will run through Sunday. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for children and seniors.
Lyon ID holders will be admitted free.

BasketballAfter winning two games on the road, the Lyon College Scots suffered a 90-70 loss to Williams Baptist College in Becknell Gymnasium Tuesday night.
The Scots won two games in the Belhaven College Classic in Jackson, Mississippi, last weekend. They defeated Louisiana College 77-66, with Casey Scribner scoring 19 points for the Scots. In their second game, the Scots beat Belhaven College 73-70. Brandon Byrd led with 22 points.
In the Tuesday home game, the Scots and Williams Baptist were tied at the half, 34-34, but Williams outscored Lyon 56-36 in the second half to take the win. Brian Tanner led Williams with 33 points and 10 rebounds.
Byrd led the Scots with 23 points and Chris Wilkinson added 19 points and five rebounds.
The Scots, 5-4, will take on Williams Baptist again at 3 p.m. Saturday at Walnut Ridge.
The Pipers evened their season record at 4-4 with a 89-79 win over the Williams Baptist Lady Eagles at Becknell Tuesday night.
Mika Seay and Candace Pettis each scored 16 points to pace the Pipers, with Melissa Allen contributing 14 points. Pettis had 10 rebounds and Allen grabbed eight off the boards. Seay also had six assists.
The Pipers will play Henderson State at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Arkadelphia.
The Pipers lost two games last weekend in the Harding University Classic at Searcy. They lost to North Alabama 76-53 on Friday and were edged by Drury College 76-75 on Saturday.
Allen led the Pipers with 11 points and 11 rebounds in the first game. She also led the Pipers in the second game with 22 points and 10 rebounds, and Seay scored 21.
